Stray Owls unveil new album 'When the Going Gets Weird'

Stray Owls have just unveiled their third album "When the Going Gets Weird" following a lengthy, four-year journey.

The pandemic forced the North Carolina trio, comprised of Jerry Kee, Scott Griffiths and Matt French, to alter their usual rehearsal routines, prompting them to experiment at home with various sounds, leading to the inclusion of instruments like the dumbek, mandolin, and even bass which is rare for them.

The resulting twelve tracks are a testament to their artistic evolution, showcasing a blend of genres. Opening with the psychedelic "Hey Now, Now", the album navigates through unique soundscapes, like the post-rock "Whatever Afterglow" and the folk-sounding "Moonlight Shadows". This rich sonic tapestry intersperses lyrical tracks with atmospheric sound collages, as heard in "Elemental Static", where noise meets tranquility.

Stray Owls’ thoughtful approach results in an organic and immersive listening experience, solidifying "When the Going Gets Weird" as their most intricate work yet. Check out the album now.
