Mergo have recently released their new single Bat Country, which strips back the fuzz but keeps their signature edge, revealing a raw, acoustic take on Aussie-grunge.

Produced by Rob Grant, the track dives into the desolate beauty of Kalgoorlie’s landscape—Mergo’s home and muse—while exposing a more vulnerable, intimate sound. Blending emotional depth with stripped-down instrumentation, the trio, comprising Henry Leaver, Xavier Douglas-Smith, and Cain Munns, channel their ‘90s alt-rock roots through a fresh, minimalist lens.

The result is both gritty and heartfelt, showcasing their evolution without losing the grit that defines them. Known for their desert-drenched soundscapes and visceral storytelling, Mergo continue to push boundaries while staying grounded in Western Australia’s stark terrain.

Bat Country proves they’re more than fuzz pedals and distortion, they’re storytellers with something real to say. Check out Bat Country below.
