Jo Burgess: A Musical Journey of Vulnerability and Self-Discovery

Jo Burgess, a talented multi-instrumentalist, singer, lyricist, and composer, is set to release her highly anticipated third album in early 2024. Hailing from the picturesque rolling hills of Devon, England, Jo's music is a captivating blend of indie pop, folk, and acoustic soul, characterized by cascading melodies, personal reckonings, and tender yearning.


Listeners have been enthralled by Jo's music, describing it as "a window to the soul, performed with an open passion and powerful lyrics; evocative, seductive- a primal outpouring". Her songs take the listener on an intimate journey, with heartfelt sincerity and evocative storytelling.



Jo Burgess is a true musical talent, showcasing her skills as a vocalist, acoustic and electric guitarist, keyboardist, lyricist, songwriter, and composer. She has been creating music since a young age and released her first album, 'That Spoke of The Sea', in 2016. Since then, she has been collaborating with various producers on different projects.


Growing up on a farm in rural Devon, Jo draws inspiration from traditional folk music and cites influential artists such as Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez, The Staves, Laura Marling, Amy Winehouse, and Brandi Carlile. Her music reflects her deep appreciation for artists and their personal journeys.


In addition to her solo endeavors, Jo is also part of the traditional folk family band, The Balcony Band, and regularly performs at gigs. She has played notable events such as The Saltash Regatta and Waterside Festival, captivating audiences with her mesmerizing performances.


With her upcoming album, 'A Familiar Pain', Jo continues to stay true to her ethos of authenticity and honesty. Her music explores themes of heartbreak, longing, and self-discovery, aiming to connect with listeners on a deep and personal level. Each song is a heartfelt expression of her own experiences, inviting others to find solace and connection in her music.


The album was recorded at The Sweet Factory in Weston-super-Mare, with producer Luke Potter, and mastered by Martin Nichols. Jo's dedication to capturing genuine emotion is evident in the recording process, with the final vocal take of one song being recorded in a single take to maintain its raw and wistful feel.
